Saturday • 4:00 pm | The Hearth (9210 - 118 Avenue (Alberta Avenue Community League))

Chantal Marie began her musical career in Quebec in 1982, performing in many popular cafés and bistros. She is passionate about story songs linked to legends, Canadian and medieval folklore, and her musical influences include Francis Cabrel, Garolou, Michel Fugain, Gordon Lightfoot and Joan Baez. Chantal Marie's popularity in the community is due to her original interpretations of popular French-speaking music. Chantal Marie's vocals and guitar playing create a rich, harmonious sound, which pairs well with her 6 or 12 string Martin guitars. While living in Quebec, she continued to immerse herself in the world of French music, expanding her repertoire. In the mid-80s, Chantal Marie moved to Yellowknife to work in the Canadian Arctic on the Ice Route and continued to perform at various musical venues in Yellowknife and Inuvik. She brought French songs to a new, remote region, with guitarist/singer Robert Auger featured on the recording of the new album "Destinations". She also met John McGale, guitarist, singer and songwriter of the Offenbach group in 1983, and has remained in contact with him over the years.

Chantal Marie has already published “Roads, Paths and Tales” with “The Road Band” a collection of classic Canadian folk, French and Roots songs. We hope you enjoy the music of Chantal Marie and L'Onde Sonore. Please look for us on the club and festival circuit.

Jay Gilday

Jay Gilday

Saturday • 2:00 pm & Sunday • 3:00 pm | The Hearth (9210 - 118 Avenue (Alberta Avenue Community League))

At once elemental and unearthly, Jay Gilday’s voice is a raw and gorgeous siren of the Canadian north, fusing hymnal anguish with driving rhythm and blues. And he is about to inscribe a special chapter in Canadian music history.

As a songwriter, Jay threads together the colours of his own ancestral traditions: Dene spirituals, Irish ballads, Canadian folk and rock. He was raised in a family of accomplished musicians on the tundra of Yellowknife, where his music electrifies its never-ending days and nights.

Whether on the main stage of a summer festival or headlining a shadowy cabaret, Jay captivates. He is equally arresting as a solo performer, crooning over acoustic guitar and piano, as the front-man of an eight-piece rock band, baiting dance floors with infectious hooks and boundless energy.

What sets Jay apart is the unfailing authenticity that accompanies his rare talents. His craft is unfettered by pageantry or put-on, and the intensity of his delivery is a product of conviction, rather than coaching.

His second full-length record, Faster than Light (2016), has earned Gilday Indigenous Artist of the Year from the Western Canadian Music Awards (2017), Singer-songwriter of the Year, and Artists to Watch from the Edmonton Music Awards (2017).

Jay is currently based in Edmonton, Alberta where his considerable fan base has learned what the rest of the country is about to find out: Jay Gilday owns one of the most arresting and important voices in Canadian music today.

She’s got one of those voices that can stop you in your tracks to find out who’s singing. That largely self-developed gift has led her experience in varied musical genres from an early age, and she has the songwriting craft to match.

But in the end, the most important facet to the progressive-alternative pop and soul sound of the artist who calls herself Karimah might be the passion she brings to what she’s doing.
